Alexander Neil and the Summerhill School

My important person in education is Alexander Sutherland Neill.
(He born in Forfar, Scotland in 1883 and he died in 1973.)
He was a progressive educator, but he was very criticized by the traditional schools, He is best known as an advocate of personal freedom for children.
He said the consequent unhappiness experienced by the repressed child, is responsible for many of the psychological disorders of adulthood and the stric schools results unhappines experiences in the children.

He worked in public school but wasn`t happy with the authoritarianism and school rules.  He founded the Summerhill School in 1927, England.
In this school the children are free and happy. All children are entitled to give his opinion and preparation their own learning.  They can smoke at school because children and teachers voted in an assembly. All said yes.

Neil I like because he think in the importance for the self-study self-studyself-study, in the freedom to choose and l learning through play.  He believes in the inteligence of the children, in their ability to choose what they want to do at school and in their future.

I think his philosophy is the best in education...
